Sacramento Chapter Early HistoryThe Sacramento Chapter of the Volvo Club of America (SacVCOA) was founded in 2002 by Doug Kauer. The chapter was active for a few years, but details are limited as the early history of the chapter has been lost to the fog of memory. The Sacramento Chapter story begins again in December 2007 when Jeff Molander responded to an ad in Rolling Magazine, the national publication of the Volvo Club of America (VCOA), for a new Sacramento President by submitting a letter of interest along with letters of support from local members. In January 2008, Jeff was notified by the VCOA National Board that he had been selected as the new Sacramento Chapter President and held a meeting to begin to develop Sacramento area activities. Present at this meeting were the founding members of this Sacramento Chapter: Jon Manji, Mike Peterson, Wally Russell, Jeff Selling, George Wellner, and Connie Wellner. After this meeting, Jeff sent out an e-mail to Northern California VCOA members with an attached survey and compiled the results: February 2008 Letter to VCOA Members (PDF at Google Drive) February 2008 Survey to VCOA Members (PDF at Google Drive) March 2008 Survey Results (PDF at Google Drive) In April 2008, the Sac Volvo Club hosted its first Planning Meeting at Turner Volvo, the local Volvo Dealership. This meeting was attended by 12 - 15 people, most of which became the first Planning Committee members: Mark Baldwin, Elizabeth Brown, Pam Brown, Ginger Guimarin, Jon Manji, Mike Peterson, Marcia Russell, Wally Russell, Jeff Selling, Al Simons, George Wellner, and Connie Wellner. At this first meeting, the survey feedback was utilized by the Planning Committee to create the first year calendar of events:
